While God was giving Moses the revelation about the Tabernacle, the people who had just been delivered by God were at the foot of Mount Sinai, making a golden calf to worship. If God knew the hardness of this people’s heart, why did he continue to give Moses instructions to design a place where he would dwell among the people that would constantly go astray?

The reason is that He knew that Israel, far from being great and obedient, must change its ways. That is why He drew near to them. As we study the Tabernacle, we find that God provided it, not because the people were holy, but because of their need to be holy; not because they lived righteously, but because of their need to live righteously. In the Tabernacle of Moses, we find a revelation of a glorious end and the steps and means to reach this end.
