If you were asked about the apostle Peter’s appearances in the gospels, how many could you name? The first would most likely be his famous denial of his Lord. Sadly, many of us have sided with that view of Peter—rejection or reluctance rather than spiritual—and we do not discern the importance and transcendence of this man in the Church, a living testimony of the grace and hope found in Christ.
Studying the many occasions in which Peter appears in the gospels will lead us to take heart and be exhorted in different key areas of our lives. The message that his life transmits reveals the hope that there is in the midst of faults or failures, and teaches us important truths. Without a doubt, at the end of this course, we will be able to consider Peter differently and learn and appreciate what his life and apparent failures teach us. A man without hesitations in following Jesus, humble, believing, frank, simple, experienced in the cross, and thirsty, was the man with a singular testimony that shone and will shine eternally among the other apostles.
